DISPENSARY CONSTRUCTION PROJECT IN TABORA REGION
Improving Access to Quality Healthcare in Tabora Region Through Dispensary Construction
The Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete Foundation (JMKF), in collaboration with the Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG), the Ministry of Health, and the Tabora Regional authorities, has successfully completed the construction and equipping of two dispensaries, one in Gengesita village in Kizengi ward, Uyui District Council, and another in Ipembe village in Kiloli ward, Sikonge DC, in Tabora Region.
This is a donor-funded project implemented with support from S.C. Johnson and Son Inc.
The project was implemented with the goal of strengthening primary healthcare service delivery and improving access to quality healthcare services for hard-to-reach areas in the Tabora region.
These dispensaries include the Outpatient Department (OPD), Reproductive and Child Health (RCH) clinic, Maternity ward, Toilets, Incinerators and placenta pit, and Two staff houses. In addition to construction works, JMKF has supplied essential medical equipment through the Medical Stores Department (MSD), ten (10) trees for each dispensary, ten (10) benches for each dispensary, room name plaques, wall plaques indicating the building sponsorship, and one (1) computer for each dispensary.
Throughout the implementation period, JMKF has worked closely with the Government by providing supportive supervision during the construction of the dispensaries and supporting the coordination and follow-up of the procurement process for essential supplies.
On the other hand, the Government has continued to facilitate the recruitment and allocation of healthcare providers for these dispensaries, as well as the processes for water and electricity services, which are still ongoing.
The dispensaries are expected to commence service delivery in early June 2026, while the official inauguration is anticipated to take place shortly after the dispensaries begin operations.
The completion of the project is expected to significantly improve access to healthcare services for residents of Gengesita village, Ipembe village, and neighbouring communities by reducing travel distances to healthcare facilities and improving the quality of healthcare infrastructure available within the area.
The project also contributes to national efforts aimed at strengthening primary healthcare systems and improving community wellbeing.
