Gaps in access to primary healthcare services remain in various parts of the country. In Tabora Region, particularly within Sikonge District Council, there are a total of 71 villages, of which only 28 currently have functioning dispensaries. This leaves 43 villages without access to nearby primary healthcare services. Similarly, in Uyui District Council, out of 156 villages, only 56 are served by dispensaries, resulting in 100 villages lacking essential primary healthcare facilities.

In response to this need, JMK Foundation (JMKF) is constructing two dispensaries in hard-to-reach and underserved areas within the Tabora Region. One in Gengesita Village (Uyui DC) and another in Ipembe Village (Sikonge DC). These villages are among those most in need of accessible healthcare services. The project directly contributes to reducing the existing service gap by increasing the number of villages with access to dispensary-level care.

As of now, construction works have reached an advanced stage, with most major structural and finishing activities nearing completion. Essential supporting infrastructure, such as incinerators and placenta pits, has also been completed. The dispensaries anticipated to become operational by May 2026, estimated to reach a population of 36,000 people.

Despite the steady progress, the project has encountered a few challenges along the way. Building in hard-to-reach areas means that materials are far away, and sometimes the construction site cannot be accessed due to heavy rainfall that blocks road access.

Once completed, the dispensaries are expected to begin providing essential healthcare services  significantly improving healthcare accessibility for surrounding communities, particularly those in hard-to-reach areas.

This project reflects the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to strengthening community health systems through strategic infrastructure development. The near completion of these dispensaries marks a significant milestone toward enhancing healthcare delivery and improving the well-being of communities in the Tabora Region.

The foundation greatly appreciates the coordination of all partners led by the Government. This is just one of the many projects with an aim of helping people and the community.
