Only 27.9% of the women in Tanzania hold managerial positions, while men occupy about 71.8%, across all sectors. Despite the country’s commitment to advancing gender equality and women empowerment, this persisting skill gap serves as a prompting urgency to facilitate further skills training that will empower more women to attain leadership roles.
The launch of our KINARA Leadership Program 2025 marked an exhilarating and pivotal beginning for 23 young women leaders working in various sectors across Tanzania.
During the first session hosted on 2nd September 2025 in Dar es Salaam, the cohort focused on rediscovering self, building confidence, and developing foundational leadership skills, setting the tone for an empowering journey ahead.
Opening with welcome remarks, the facilitators introduced the participants to KINARA’s vision of nurturing young women leaders through mentorship, self-discovery, and skill development. This was followed by an engaging self-awareness workshop, where participants were led to explore their values, personal strengths, and leadership styles through reflective exercises. These discussions helped the women to better understand their unique potential and how they can leverage it for impactful leadership.
Additionally, the leadership essentials session introduced the women to critical tools on effective communication, decision-making, confidence-building, and teamwork. The women shared their experiences, challenges, and strategies through the interactive group discussions aimed to strengthen their leadership journey.
To further support their learning, each participant received a workbook as well as reference materials to guide their continued reflection and personal growth beyond the session.

By the end of the session, the cohort expressed a renewed self-belief and clarity regarding their leadership path. The session fostered strong peer connections, setting a solid foundation for collaboration and collective growth throughout the program.
