Former President Dr Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete shared a nostalgic moment with Ngarenaro Ward Councillor, Hon. Abdulaziz Abubakar Chende, popularly known by his stage name Janjaro (formerly Dogo Janja), during a meeting in Arusha. 

The two reminisced while looking at a photograph taken together at the State House in 2010, recalling a memorable encounter that has stood the test of time.  

The reunion highlighted the enduring relationships Dr Kikwete has maintained with Tanzanians from diverse backgrounds throughout his years in public service. 

The meeting took place while Dr Kikwete was in Arusha to chair the Africa Food Prize Committee (AFP) meeting, held on 23–24 July 2026.  

As Chair of the committee, the former President leads deliberations on recognising outstanding individuals and institutions that have made exceptional contributions to transforming agriculture and strengthening food security across the African continent. 

The Africa Food Prize Committee operates under the umbrella of AGRA (Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa), bringing together distinguished African leaders and agricultural experts committed to advancing sustainable agricultural development.  

Through the prestigious annual award, the committee celebrates innovation, leadership and impact in agriculture, inspiring continued investment and progress towards a food-secure and prosperous Africa.
