H.E. Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete

H.E. Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete is the founder and chairman of the Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete Foundation (JMKF), which is dedicated to advancing sustainable development, enhancing health and education, and promoting economic empowerment across Africa. Dr. Kikwete served as the 4th President of the United Republic of Tanzania from 2005 to 2015, during which he made notable strides in national development, economic growth, poverty alleviation, infrastructure development, and regional integration. His leadership was instrumental in strengthening Tanzania’s position as a key player in East Africa. He also took proactive steps to tackle issues related to sustainable development across the African continent.

Dr. Kikwete’s influence extended far beyond Tanzania’s borders. At the regional and continental level, he held various prestigious leadership roles, including Chair of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Chair of the East African Community (EAC), and Chair of the African Union. He was the Chairperson of the United Nations High-Level Panel on the Global Response to Health Crises and the African Leaders Malaria Alliance (ALMA).

Post-presidency, H.E. Dr. Kikwete continued to serve in high-impact global leadership roles. He was Co-Chair of the UN High-Level Advisory Group on Every Woman Every Child, a member of the UN Lead Group on Scaling Up Nutrition, and a Global Ambassador for Immunization. He also chaired the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), the Africa Food Prize, and Co-Chaired the Chatham House Commission on Universal Health.

In addition to these roles, H.E. Dr. Kikwete serves as a Commissioner of the International Education Commission for Financing Global Education Opportunity, Co-Chair of the World Refugee Council, African Union High-Level Representative on Libya, and Chair of the SADC Panel of Elders.
