Amidst cheers and ululations, Vice President Dr. Philip Isidore Mpango inaugurated the Integrated Community Health Workers (CHW) program at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam on January 31.

This launch showcased the commitment and eagerness of all stakeholders to achieve universal healthcare coverage in Tanzania.

The primary goal of the initiative is to fortify primary healthcare in the country by leveraging the services of community health workers.

Dignitaries, government officials, healthcare providers, community leaders, and representatives from various organizations, including the JMKF, attended the event.

Community Health Workers (CHWs) are individuals who undergo training to deeply understand their communities’ needs and efficiently deliver healthcare services, education, and support.

Their significance lies in their ability to provide healthcare services to underserved communities, particularly in rural areas with limited healthcare facilities.

The integrated CHW program aims to enhance the capacity and impact of community health workers by seamlessly integrating their services into the broader healthcare system.

This integration improves coordination between community health workers, healthcare professionals, and facilities.

Additionally, the program will advocate for evidence-based practices and establish a pathway for continuous training and professional development for community health workers.
